There’s something I’ve always loved about original art.

It doesn’t have to match the sofa perfectly.
It doesn’t have to follow whatever color palette happens to be trending this year.

Sometimes you see a piece and just feel something.

That’s the good stuff.

I’ve spent years creating photographs, paintings and artwork, and one thing has stayed pretty consistent: I’m drawn to color. Strong color. Quiet color. Unexpected combinations. Landscapes that aren’t completely landscapes. Pieces that can feel completely different depending on who is looking at them.

And lately, I’ve been putting more of my original paintings out into the world.

Maybe one of them belongs on your wall.

Some of my work is unapologetically bold.

Deep reds. Black. Blue. Texture. Movement.

The kind of piece that can take a fairly simple room and completely change the way it feels.

I love art like that.

Not art that politely disappears into the background — art that becomes part of the room.

Then there are pieces that feel a little quieter.

A solitary tree. A horizon. Something that resembles a landscape without telling you exactly where you are.

Those are often the paintings I find myself staring at the longest.

Maybe because everyone sees something slightly different in them.

Travel has also worked its way into my art.

Iceland especially has a way of doing that to me.

The blues, black, ice, rock, enormous skies and strange quietness of the landscape are hard to forget. Sometimes those places come back out in a painting years later without my really planning it.

And that is probably one of my favorite things about creating.

You don’t always know where a piece is going when you start.

Original art makes a home feel like YOUR home

Walk through enough furniture stores and you’ll start seeing the same artwork over and over.

There’s nothing wrong with that.

But there’s something completely different about knowing the painting hanging in your home came from an actual artist’s studio.

There are brush strokes.

Texture.

Imperfections.

Decisions that changed halfway through.

And somewhere underneath the finished painting are probably three or four earlier versions that didn’t quite work.

That history is part of the piece.
