Then and now.

I’m beyond excited when I get to photograph a newborn of a wedding I photographed years earlier! I just can’t stop grinning ear to ear… and this little lady has some of the most amazing parents and family that I’ve ever met. Shannon & Jon had their wedding in Mexico 6 years ago when I toted my own kids with when they were only a year old and my youngest Jace was only 3 months old. So this wedding was a little extra memorable for me too.

Plan a portrait calendar

Busy is the word, and I always suggest taking time each year to plan a portrait calendars.  It doesn’t matter what time of year you start this, but taking a look at where you are in life with your family/children and making a decision on when professional portraits are best each year is a great way to get those memories at a time that works best for you and for your budget.

Here are some great times and milestones that will mean the most to catch with professional photography:

1st year: Maternity, Birth-3 weeks, When your child starts sitting up, when your child stands, first birthday

Youth: Formal portraits yearly(if you would rather have beautiful images vs. school photographs), Awards and recognition portraits when they have major accomplishments (this is confidence building).

Yearly: Family portraits, children’s favorite interests portraits, special outfits for holidays or from special family members, siblings portraits.  Parents… the most un-photographed couple and it is one of the most important to your children~make time for formal portraits of just the two of you every few years at least.

Generation portraits: children with parents and grandparents, mother or father & child portraits, grandparents with grandchildren, and formal portraits of grandparents.

For you:  Update business portraits every 2 years (yes, get rid of the HS photos on your LinkedIn page!lol),  make-over or boudoir portraits because we all need to feel extra special once in a while – and we also need something to look back at to remember what we were like – and your children will cherish photos of you throughout the years too.

Wedding: Yes of course – but also consider formal portraits with your gown when you have made some time and space without the hustle and bustle of the wedding day.

Love: Celebrate… anniversary, birthday ~special places & memories.

And although I could go on and on ~ start picking through the most important things for you on this list and start plugging them into your personal calendar and making your appointments… you can always re-schedule closer to a schedule date.. but if it’s not on your calendar then life gets busy and these very important times get pushed aside.  Make it real, and set up your portrait calendar.

Need help?  We have a yearly portrait planning date at the studio – it’s absolutely free, and booking with us personally is not required.  I just want to help you get on track to great memories that don’t go missed!

If I could give you one thing in life.

Life passes us by so quickly, and I woke up this morning to a “quote” on Facebook by some unknown that I really had to share.

“If I could give you one thing in life, I would give you the ability to see yourself through my eyes, only then would you realize how special you are to me.”

As much as it applies to loved ones, it is why I love photographing so much too.  People in general are so unaware of how beautiful they are, and how other people actually see them.  As does everyone else, some days I wake up feeling a bit ugly and yucky, other days we feel ok or don’t even think about it.  A few days we feel amazing here and there.  But I think if we all actually had a chance to see ourselves how others see us we would have so much more confidence in who we are and how amazing we actually look to other people.

So when I photograph you, that is what I’m looking for… I way to give you the ability to see yourself through my eyes.  Because you are special.Image

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.”
— Cardinal Mermillod

It may sound early to tell you Mother’s Day is the most important day of the year, but it is never too early to think about all of the mother’s out there in the world.  Our children depend on us, they love us, they look up to us for everything as they are growing up.  They look to us when they scrap their knee, spill their milk, and just want someone to lay next to when they are feeling sad.  Our children look to us to be mountains they can climb over when they are small, friends they can dance with to a good song, and someone they can just be comfortable being “silly” with once in a while.

I can also say from experience that as a mother… we don’t get enough photographs with our children.  While we take lots of pictures of them, I’m willing to bet that a majority of those images are minus mom in the photo – as we are also the photographers and videographers – documenting our children’s childhood.  That being said, again – Mother’s Day is right around the corner and what better way to celebrate the relationship with you and your children than with a portrait session that shows that special bond you have with your child or children.  Time to start leaving hints to dads and family to get a gift certificate for a session… or better yet, come in and do a mother and child session as a gift to yourself for all the hard work, tears, smiles & laughter that happen every day – much because of what you do for your children every day.

$500 for a beautiful portrait session for your children and their mother, with a gorgeous 11×14 framed canvas included of one image from their session, and 2 digital files with rights to print for personal use.  GIFT CERTIFICATES are available to purchase with this package and can be used anytime in 2014 as well.

We can help you plan it however you want.  Some even like to make it a mini-makeover day to feel extra nice and pampered before the new addition to your family.

BABY Jack tab blankets

SUPER happy to say that I’m now carrying Baby Jack tab blankets at our new studio in Denver.  Both my kids LOVED their tab blankets – in fact they wore them completely out because they carried them everywhere.  They are super soft and have the great sensory tabs and nice and small so your kids can tote them around without taking up much room at all.  If you are interested, we will have some available at the studio or if you see one of the designs here that you like, call me and I can let you know if I have it in stock and can also take orders over the phone or online.  Any questions: (720)566-9770 or e-mail us at
baby Jack blankets are all handmade ribbon tab blankets. They are baby/child size. Each blanket has 1 looped ribbon attached for clipping toys or a pacifer and the rest of the ribbons are sewn shut to create “tabs”. This is to prevent from easily popping off after normal wear & tear and to prevent safety issues like getting little fingers caught.
They are PERFECT  perfect baby shower gifts!
General Information

Please wash on cold delicate & tumble dry solo to prevent from shrinking. Ribbons may fray and stray after normal wear and tear so please moniter children carefully!

NEWBORN Casting Call – March 2012

I’m planning a newborn baby inspiration photo-shoot in March 2012.  I’m looking for 5 or 6 tiny newborns that will be around 6-8lbs during the last week in March this year.   Ideally we will have actually about 8-10 newborns on site for the shoot, and then work with those that are cooperating the best for the final inspiration image.  During the shoot I always try to take a few individual images as well, and each newborn that participates will receive a $50 print credit for compensation.

If you are due soon, please message me as soon as you can to let me know if you may be available… I photograph a lot of newborns, and know that dates are only approximate… but if you are due anytime in the next few weeks, I would love to get you on the list of potential little models.

Details and exact date are coming soon! 🙂

Thank you!!!

The first couple weeks.

It’s 3 a.m., they’re all asleep,
and no-one’s here to see.
As we rock slowly back and forth,
My baby boy and me.

His little hand is feather light
Tucked up against my chin.
I hold his tiny hand in mine,
and stroke his baby skin.

The house about us creaks and groans,
The clock hands creep around.
He snuggles closer to me still,
And makes his baby sounds.

I love these quiet hours so much,
And cherish every one.
Store memories up inside my heart
For lonely nights to come.

All too soon he’ll be grown up,
His need for mama gone.
But until then I still have time
For kisses and for song.

Time for quiet hours like this
With him cuddled in my arms,
Where I wish he’d always stay
Protected, safe and warm.

And yet I know the day will come
When his tiny little hand,
will be bigger than my own.
He’ll grow to be a man.

But until then he’s mine to love
With no one here to see.
As we rock slowly back and forth,
My baby and me.
